Hello all.
I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, so a 9 miler was about all I was good for. But first I had to get to Minehead from Porlock. After lots of chats with shop keepers and dog walkers I found out both the time and the place to get the bus. I was told to get on at the first stop in Porlock because this is the bus that all the local children use to get to Minehead College and it gets pretty crowded. I wasn't the only person not wearing school uniform at the bus stop which was a relief, but those of us who have already experienced the "best years of our life" were severely outnumbered. I had a preconception that it would be a noisy ride, but to my amazement this was not the case. Pretty much every single young person was glued to a mobile phone for the entire journey of 30 minutes.
In Minehead I missed my chance to get off the bus at the correct stop, because I wasn't concentrating. When I looked up, it was just me and about 40 school kids left on the bus. 5 minutes later the bus pulled into the college grounds and I was deposited along with the contents of a few more buses outside the reception area.
I got out of there as fast as I could without making eye contact. I then had a 15 minute walk back to the place where I should have got off. Great start!
I started the walk, and for about 30 minutes the weather was fine. Then it slowly started to rain.
After one hour of walking I was in full weatherproof gear hearing only the sound of my breathing and the rustle of my waterproof trousers.
Just before it started raining I heard a cuckoo which I believe is early being not yet May. I also saw lots of very impressive black slugs.
It didn't stop raining until I got to Porlock.
The walk was supposed to be 9 miles but the app on my phone is saying that I have walked 12 miles today. Lots of hills as I expected. I have not noticed any problems with my knees or any other bodily areas, so I am pleased.
I'm now at a very good campsite in Porlock and the chap who owns it has let me put my soaking wet walking gear in his airing cupboard to dry. I've had a great shower and have now worked out how to link up my mobile phone to my laptop so that I can send these blogs.
One of the pubs in Porlock will be cooking my dinner tonight but I am not particularly hungry having just finished off a Lion Bar Easter Egg.
More soon.
Take it easy.
