Hello all
Firstly I need to make some changes to the itinerary that I put together before the walk started. I always thought that there was a good chance that something would have to change, and I suppose it is a wonder that it hasn't changed already.
The reason for the changes are because I forgot to take into consideration the closure of the coast path from Lulworth onward due to the army shooting at each other on week days. As I was due to walk that stretch on a Tuesday, I now need to build in four extra rest days so that I can walk it on a Saturday.
I am struggling to put up a new itinerary on the blog pages but I will be able to do so when I get home for my scheduled break on 27th May.
But in the meantime here are the changes in essence -
The Itinerary remains the same up until Monday 3rd June when I will be taking two extra rest days.
I will be taking two more rest days later, but it's probably best for us all to wait until I get home and can put together a new list that I can put on the blog and Facebook.
The upshot of the whole thing is that I will be walking the last stretch of path on my 65th Birthday.
I walked straight back into Poldark country again. The Wheal Prosper mine is at Rinsey Cliffs and it was used for the main mining sections of the Poldark series.

Today has been a lovely day all round. I awoke, in the lay-by, later than I intended, but still made it into Porthleven in time to buy a sandwich and catch the bus back to Marazion.
Soon after leaving Marazion I met a lady who was walking along slowly with what appeared to be a rather old greyhound. We exchanged the morning pleasantries as is normal.
Pretty soon after this I had to stop to put away my top and sort out my pack and she went past me, again with a few bits of weather related chat.
Very soon after I noticed some movement on the floor of the path and found a fledgling bird which was scrabbling around in the dust, unable to fly. So I managed to pick it up and put it up high in the hedge where it would stand a better chance of surviving. I think it was a young goldfinch as there were lots of goldfinches in that area.
It wasn't long before I had caught up with her again and she asked me if I had seen the young bird. I was able to tell her what I had done. The reason she didn't stop for the bird was that she was afraid that her dog would make a very quick meal of it.
We then walked along - very slowly - as we talked about goldfinches and how there are a lot more of them around nowadays. This subject lasted a while. Then she told me about her garden and the bird feeders and bird baths. This subject also lasted a while. Then I learnt about how greyhounds are prone to corns on their feet if they walk on tarmac too often. I considered mentioning my corn but decided against it.
I started making noises about having to walk to Porthleven and my need to get on.
"Don't let me hold you up my dear".
"OK. Well have a nice walk. It's been nice talking to you".
I started to speed up a little.
"I've walked to Porthleven. Now when was it? Back in the Eighties. We were walking for Greenpeace. Saving the whales".
"A very good cause I should think" I said, "Anyway, I must get on".
"Yes dear you must.....I walked for Greenpeace many times back then".
It felt rude to walk away, so I slowed down and listened to her stories of Greenpeace and the walks and about her son, her husband and her dog.
We walked together slowly, chatting for quite a while.
Suddenly she said - "Well I thought you were in a hurry".
"Well, not exactly in a hurry", I said.
"You won't get to Porthleven before dark if you walk as slow as me. I'll turn around here so that you can get off".
I think it was her only way of letting me get on without her starting on another subject.
She was a lovely lady and in some ways she reminded me of my mum.

Here are a few pictures of the start of the walk including one of Porthleven in the early morning sunshine.
There is something about Porthleven. This is what I looked at as I waited for my bus |
St Michael's Mount looking rather splendid. |
This stile has aesthetic qualities. |
The view back toward yesterday's walk |

Obviously they put a roof on for the filming! |
As I was walking towards the mine I noticed that someone had left a scythe lying around and there was some hay which needed cutting. I started the job, swinging the scythe from side to side, the corn fell in neat rows all around me. It was hot work so I was forced to remove my loose linen shirt. Stripped to the waist I worked on until the job was done and then I redressed and got on with my walk.
It's a pity there was nobody about to take a photo. You will just have to imagine it.
I believe that Russ Poldark is a flawed character. What is the matter with him? That lovely red headed wife of his is just about perfect. But Russ is still hankering after the snooty one. I feel that she is well matched with the popinjay that she is married to. And as for the "Little Lord Fauntleroy", who is their son - words escape me. (I know he is really Russ's son)
Come on Russ, get your act together and wise up.
I know that he is actually called Ross, but it gives me enormous pleasure to get it wrong because it's great way to be childishly annoying to Jennie.......I say it all the time...........I know that she likes it really!

I found a lovely old shack/house as I was walking and thought you might like to see it.
Also some more photos of the day.
The view towards The Lizard - but that's for tomorrow |
I am pleased with this photo |
The Lizard in the distance. Stunning rocks and a boat. |
More stunning rocks. That is a person and a dog on the top. |
Honeysuckle blooming. |
Porthleven looking as lovely as ever. This time in the afternoon sun. |

Here's a photo I took while walking between Penzance and Marazion, which for some reason I am able to upload today, having been unable to do so when I tried yesterday.
I couldn't help wondering - Which business idea came first - the coffee or the kites? |
Take it easy.
